To eat or…


“It’s like a burrito…” “Kinda like a burger….” “Basically a….”
Ha, oh how our meals have changed. From factory ground beef and fast-food lanes over to lentils, sprouts, and all kinds of wonderful plates in between! Without planning any shift or even really realizing what was happening in our kitchen, J and I have shifted to a new kind of eating. And we’re loving it!
We still enjoy meat, when we can find affordable freerange/organic options, or when we’re travelling or visiting or eating out, but it’s no longer a necessity or even really a desire in the day-to-day eating experience. Our menu is so full of color and flavour, and our plates so enjoyable, and our bodies so rejuvenated, that we’re coming to appreciate this unexpected and lasting shift.
This evening’s supper? Roasted vegetables (eggplant, red onions, peppers), nann, fresh hummus, and a plate of cheese, fruit, and nuts. Wow!!! So much beauty and enjoyment! I think the best part is watching Jeremiah tear into it and partake in the meal as a member of the table.
Anyways. I’m reading ‘The Omnivores Dilemma’ and am being increasingly challenged and shaken by the state of food production and consumption in America. But, more on that later. For now, Dickens and a cozy blanket!
